Rotary Weeder for Small-Scale Farming

A lightweight row/inter-row rotary weeder for vegetables, pulses, and cereals. Rotating tines or star wheels uproot weeds and crumble soil between crop rows, improving aeration and reducing evaporation. Build it as a hand-push, walk-behind powered, or mini-tractor (PTO) attachment.

Parts Used:
  1. Frame & Toolbar – Adjustable width with holes/slots for row spacing; quick pins.
  2. Rotors/Tines – Star wheels or L-/C-shaped tines (spring steel); stone guard rings.
  3. Depth Control – Gauge wheels or skids; screw/quick cam adjust.
  4. Drive (choose)
  5. Hand-push: ground wheel → sprocket/chain to rotor (or free-rolling stars).
  6. Powered: 2–4 HP petrol/electric hub/gear motor + chain drive.
  7. PTO: 540 rpm gearbox + chain reduction.
  8. Handle/Drawbar – Height-adjustable with vibration grips (hand/walk-behind).
  9. Row Shields – Deflector plates to prevent soil/stone throw into crop.
  10. Bearings & Hubs – Sealed bearings, grease nipples.
  11. Optional Attachments – Fertilizer micro-doser, mulch opener, row markers.
