Power generation from moving vehicles

A traffic-energy harvester that converts tiny wheel passes into electricity. Build it as a private-lane/demo rig (not public roads): a low-travel speed-table or piezo road tile produces AC/DC that’s rectified and stored in a supercapacitor/battery to run LEDs, counters, or a small IoT node.

Parts Used:
  1. Load plate/speed-table with springs + bump stops (caps travel)
  2. A) Rack, pinion, gearbox, one-way clutch, flywheel (smooths pulses) + PM generator
  3. B) PZT stacks/disc array, preload springs/Bellevilles, spreader plate
  4. C) Micro cylinder/bellows, check valves, micro-turbine (optional)
  5. Power electronics – Bridge/active rectifier, TVS surge clamp, buck/boost DC-DC, supercapacitor (10–50 F), optional 12 V LiFePO₄ (small)
  6. Controls & Sensing – MCU (ESP32/Arduino), axle/footfall counter, volt/amp logger, beacon/LED load
  7. Enclosure & Safety – IP65 box, strain relief, guards, anti-slip surface, signage

TECHNICAL SUPPORT

Working principle
  1. Wheel passes → plate deflects a few mm (or tile flexes).
  2. Motion/strain → electrical energy (generator or piezo).
  3. Rectify + store in a supercap/battery; a DC-DC gives regulated 5/12 V.
  4. Load fires after enough energy accrues (LEDs, LoRa/GSM ping, counter update).
