Automatic Chapati Maker

An Automatic Chapati Maker is a compact food-grade machine that portions dough, presses/rolls it to a set thickness, and cooks chapatis on heated plates while a conveyor moves them through bake and puff zones. The system combines mechanics (hopper, divider, press), thermal engineering (PID-controlled heaters), and automation (motors, sensors, microcontroller). Perfect for diploma/degree students to demonstrate mechatronics, temperature control, and safety in a real-world application.

Parts Used:
  1. Frame & Enclosure – SS-304/powder-coated body with crumb tray and service doors.
  2. Dough Hopper & Feeder – Auger/screw feeder with DC gear motor to dispense dough.
  3. Ball Divider / Former – Cavity wheel or slide mechanism to portion 25–35 g dough balls (adjustable).
  4. Pressing/Rolling Unit – Dual plates or roller pair to flatten to 1.5–3 mm thickness.
  5. Cooking Plates / Tawa – Cast-aluminum plates with embedded nichrome/IR heaters; 180–230 °C range.
  6. Conveyor – Food-grade PTFE belt guiding chapati through press → bake → puff.
  7. Motors & Drives – DC/BLDC/stepper motors with gearboxes; motor drivers for speed/position control.
  8. Sensors – Thermocouple/NTC for temperature, limit switches for positions, optical sensor for presence.
  9. Controller – Arduino/ESP32 or small PLC with PID temperature control, LCD/keys, buzzer, counter.
  10. Power & Safety – 230 VAC input, SMPS (24 V) for motors, MCB/fuse, SSR/relays, insulation, E-Stop.
