Centrifugal Pump Test Rig

A bench-mount setup to study the performance of a centrifugal pump and plot its characteristic curves. The rig lets you vary flow using a delivery valve, measure discharge (Q), head (H), input power (P_in), and calculate water power and overall efficiency. Students can identify best efficiency point (BEP), examine system/pump curves, and discuss NPSH and cavitation.

Parts Used:
  1. Centrifugal Pump (monoblock/close-coupled) with priming port
  2. Motor & Drive: AC induction motor with wattmeter/energy meter (or VFD for speed variation)
  3. Suction Line: Tank → foot valve + strainer → suction pipe → pump inlet
  4. Delivery Line: Pump outlet → control valve → rotameter or measuring tank line → return
  5. Pressure Measurement: Suction & delivery gauges/manometers with tappings near pump flanges
  6. Discharge Measurement:
  7. Measuring tank + stopwatch (volumetric method), or
  8. Rotameter / electromagnetic flowmeter
  9. Speed Measurement: Digital tachometer (photo/reflective)
  10. Instrumentation: Voltmeter, ammeter, wattmeter/energy meter, thermometer (water temp)
  11. Hydraulic Circuit: PVC/SS piping, elbows, unions, flexible hoses, drain/bleed cocks
  12. Frame & Tank: Powder-coated frame, sump/overhead tank with sight marks
  13. Safety & Accessories: Non-return valve, priming funnel, vibration pads, fuse/E-stop
