Coconut Dehusker Machine

A Coconut Dehusker Machine mechanically removes the outer husk (coir) from mature coconuts using opposing wedges/rollers. Available as manual (lever/foot) or motorized (geared motor) versions, it improves productivity and safety compared to traditional spike methods. This project demonstrates mechanism design, ergonomics, torque transmission, and safety interlocks—perfect for diploma/degree students in Mechanical/Agro engineering.

Parts Used:
  1. Frame & Base – Welded steel frame with anti-slip feet and waste tray.
  2. Dehusking Unit – Opposing hardened wedges/spikes or serrated rollers with adjustable gap.
  3. Actuation
  4. Manual: Long lever or foot pedal with return spring and linkage.
  5. Motorized: 0.5–1 HP geared motor (≈ 30–80 rpm output) with chain/sprocket drive.
  6. Clamping & Positioning – V-block/cone locator to hold nut; size adjuster for different diameters.
  7. Bearings & Shafts – Pillow block bearings, keyed shafts, coupler.
  8. Controls & Power – On/Off switch, E-Stop, optional reverse; 230 VAC input or 24 V DC system.
  9. Safety – Fixed/movable guards, two-hand/foot actuation (manual), shear pin/torque limiter.
  10. Ergonomics – Handle grips, working height 900–1000 mm, anti-fatigue pedal geometry.
  11. Mobility – Locking castor wheels and side handles.
  12. Optional Add-ons – Cycle counter, LED work light, dust shield, husk chute to sack.

TECHNICAL SUPPORT

Working & Control Logic
  1. Place coconut on the locator; adjust wedge/roller gap.
  2. Engage lever/foot pedal or press Start (motorized).
  3. Opposing wedges/rollers split and peel the husk in segments; rotate the nut slightly and repeat until shell is free.
  4. Release pedal/Stop; husk falls to tray/chute; tally increments (optional).
  5. Safety: Guard interlock/E-Stop cuts power; torque limiter protects user and drivetrain.
