Pedal Powered Generator for Study Lamp

A compact, human-powered generator that lets you pedal to charge a battery and power a bright LED study lamp—perfect for off-grid homes, hostels, and emergency use. Pedaling spins a flywheel through a chain/belt; a PMDC motor acts as a generator. A rectifier + charge controller fills a small battery (or supercap bank), and a DC driver powers a 5–12 W LED lamp with stable, flicker-free light. Optional USB 5 V output can top up a phone.

Parts Used:
  1. Pedal Drive Module: Bicycle crankset, bottom bracket, pedals, main chainring
  2. Transmission & Inertia: Chain/V-belt with selectable ratios; flywheel (2–4 kg) + freewheel
  3. Generator: PMDC motor (e.g., 12–24 V, 150–250 W rating used as generator) or bicycle dynamo
  4. Power Electronics:
  5. Full-bridge rectifier (if using alternator/BLDC)
  6. Buck/boost DC-DC converter for regulated outputs (12 V lamp / 5 V USB)
  7. Charge controller (Li-ion/LiFePO₄/lead-acid, as chosen) with protections
  8. Energy Storage: 12 V 7–9 Ah SLA or LiFePO₄ 12.8 V 4–6 Ah, or supercapacitor bank (optional)
  9. Lighting: 12 V LED lamp 5–12 W (eye-comfort color 4000–5000 K) with constant-current driver
  10. Instrumentation: Voltmeter, ammeter/wattmeter, on/off switch, low-voltage cut-off
  11. Frame & Safety: Welded MS frame, guards for chain/belt, non-slip feet
  12. Optional: Dual USB 5 V module, lamp dimmer, small DC fan
